Guida rapida
Ultimo aggiornamento: 12 agosto 2026
I file.
- il vento dell'ora e del luogo in cui hai pedalato, da Open-Meteo, e lo scompone nella componente contraria istante per istante;
06«Leggi bici», prima e dopo
Quick start
Last updated: 12 August 2026
In short: load a track file, or connect the bike, and Ammentus does the rest. Only two things are worth reading first: your rides stay on your device, and motor assistance is not a figure read from the bike but an estimate calculated here.
01Two things to know before you start
Your rides stay on your device. Ammentus has no accounts, asks for no password and copies nothing to a server. The archive lives in your browser, and if you clear the site data it goes with it. That is why the backup, further down, is not an optional extra.
Assistance, motor output and battery charge are estimates. The bike does not record them in the track: no FIT file contains the assistance level moment by moment, nor how much energy left the battery. Ammentus calculates them with a model that simulates the mechanics of pedalling (your measured power, the gradient, the wind, the road surface, the mass) and works out by difference how much the motor contributed. Where the bike app publishes cumulative totals, they serve to check that calculation, not to replace it.
Everything else is measured by the sensors and reported as it stands: speed, elevation, heart rate, cadence, leg power.
Install it. From the browser menu, «Add to Home Screen» or «Install». From then on it opens like an app and works with no connection: data is needed only to download the wind, the road surfaces and the rides from the connector.
02Getting your first ride in
Two routes, and you can use both.
Files. Drag or pick one or more .fit or .gpx files. A zip works too: Ammentus opens it and takes what is inside. This is the route for everything that is not Bosch, and the only one for an older archive.
Strava always comes in this way. You can export a single ride, or ask Strava for the full export of your account and hand Ammentus the zip as it is. There is no direct connection, and nothing to authorise.
Three things are worth knowing about that archive before you open it.
The first is that Strava GPX tracks contain no power. Inside you will find elevation, timestamps and heart rate, and nothing else. They are the bulk of the export, and without leg power the energy balance cannot be computed: on those rides the assistance estimate does not appear. This is not a shortcoming of Ammentus, it is what Strava puts in the file. If you also have the same ride from the bike, import it from there as well: the two recognise each other and stay paired, and the estimate is made on the complete recording.
The second is that the zip also holds indoor trainer sessions, in a format Ammentus does not read. This matters less than it sounds: an indoor ride has no wind, no real gradient and no road surface, and the distances trainers report are not kilometres travelled.
The third is that road surfaces are downloaded six rides at a time, so after loading hundreds of tracks nearly all of them are left to complete afterwards, from the button in Settings.
The Bosch eBike Flow connector. From Settings, you authorise Ammentus once from the Flow portal, and from then on rides arrive on their own. Two limits that are not Ammentus's doing: the Bosch service exposes the last forty rides and nothing older, and authorisation must be granted explicitly to this application. For anything before that you need files.
Whatever a file declares as a run, a walk, a swim or a hike is discarded on the way in, since it would otherwise land in the statistics and on the overview map. Activities with no declared sport are let through.
03What happens on its own, straight after
As soon as a ride enters the archive, Ammentus goes and fetches two things:
- the wind for the hour and the place where you rode, from Open-Meteo, resolved into the headwind component moment by moment;
- the road surface, from OpenStreetMap, to know where you rode on tarmac and where on gravel: the rolling resistance coefficient differs by more than 60% between the two, and it is one of the heaviest terms in the estimate.
Surfaces are downloaded for six rides at most at a time, so the app is not held up for minutes on end. After a bulk load, the rest is completed from the button in Settings. The wind has no such limit.
If you import with no connection, both are left undone: the buttons in Settings pick them up whenever you want.
04If you load the same ride twice
Nothing bad happens, and it is worth knowing why.
The same file loaded twice is rejected as a duplicate.
The same ride recorded by two devices, from the bike and from the watch for instance, stays in the archive twice, and the two copies mark each other as paired. This is not an oversight: the bike recording has leg power, the watch recording has heart rate, and throwing one away would mean losing a channel for good. The ride header says whether it is paired and which device it came from.
The criterion is complementarity: two copies are both kept only if each carries something the other lacks. The same ride taken from the Bosch connector and then loaded as a file exported from Flow is one recording brought in two different ways, and stays a single ride.
Find duplicates, in the archive, uses the same criterion: it groups real copies and leaves paired ones alone.
05The bike and the rider
These live in Settings, and they are the numbers everything else depends on. They are worth five minutes, once.
Mass. Your weight plus the bike's, with whatever you carry on you and in the bags. It is the term that governs climbing: getting it wrong by ten kilos visibly shifts the assistance estimate on a ride with any elevation gain.
Frontal area (cda). How wide you are against the air, which depends on how you sit more than on the bike. The model is calibrated at 0.54 m², a value for an upright position on a city or trekking bike. On a road bike with your hands in the drops it is appreciably less.
Cut-off speed. The threshold above which the motor stops assisting by law. The nominal figure is 25 km/h, but speedometers and firmware have their own tolerance: if you do not set the one your bike actually uses, the model credits the motor with assistance it never gave, or takes it away when it was there.
Motor ceiling. The maximum power your drive unit can deliver. This is not the quoted torque: it is the ceiling in watts, and the model needs it so as not to credit the motor with more than it can do.
06«Read bike», before and after
This is the command that brings in the one measured figure rather than a deduced one.
The bike keeps two counters that never reset: the kilometres ridden since it was new, and the watt-hours drawn from the battery over the same period. Read bike takes a snapshot of both and stores it with the date. Every snapshot stays in Bike readings, and between two consecutive readings Ammentus shows the watt-hours spent per kilometre over that interval.
That number is measured by the bike, not calculated by Ammentus. Everything else you read about assistance is an estimate, and this is the only line you can use to judge it.
How to make it pay off: read before you set off, and again as soon as you get back. That way the interval between two readings holds a single ride, and the consumption you see belongs to it. If you read once a week the number is still true, but it is the average of everything you did in between, climbs and errands together, and there is nothing to compare it with.
Two readings taken too close together, with no kilometres in between, produce no consumption figure: the ratio would be meaningless, and the line stays empty.
It costs ten seconds, twice. It does no favours to that particular ride: it makes a model that would otherwise stay a calculation verifiable, one reading at a time.
07The modes Flow declares
In the assistance card, the Modes from Flow button lets you transcribe the per-mode kilometres the bike app reports for that ride. You write the labels yourself, since every bike has its own: on one they are off, eco, tour, sport, turbo; on another off, eco+, auto, eMTB.
What it is for: comparing what the model estimated with what the bike declares. Compare with the app highlights the rows that differ beyond tolerance. One highlighted row out of ten is normal; a whole column is a signal.
One thing to keep in mind when reading that comparison: Flow counts the kilometres for which the mode was selected, not the ones where the motor pushed. Ten kilometres in eco stay ten even if for half of them you were above the cut-off speed and the motor was idle. The only row that translates without ambiguity is off: there the selector really was switched off.
08How to read the estimated assistance
There are five levels: none, light, medium, strong, maximum. They are Ammentus's names, not Bosch's, and they describe how hard the motor was pushing relative to you, not which mode you had selected. The colour scale runs from grey to dark red, losing lightness at every step, so the order stays readable in black and white and to anyone who confuses red and green.
Below 12% the estimate is not a measurement. Gradient noise does not cancel out in the energy balance, and on rides done with the motor switched off the model still answers 9 or 10 per cent. When the estimate falls below that threshold the card says so: read it as «little assistance», not as a figure.
The same holds the other way round. The estimate is accurate to within a few percentage points over a whole ride, not over a single minute.
09Getting things out
The backup is the first thing to do and worth repeating now and then. One compressed file with every track and every preference, which reads back in from here. It is deliberately not encrypted: an archive you cannot open again in ten years is not an archive.
GPX, from a single ride, holds only what was actually recorded: elevation, heart rate, cadence, leg power. Assistance, levels and estimated motor output are left out, because inside a GPX, next to sensor data, they would look measured too.
JSON, from a single ride, holds everything, estimates included, and reads back in here with no conversion.
10Free and Pro
In the free version the archive stops at twenty activities and two themes are available. Everything else works the same: the model, the charts, the wind, the surfaces, the backup, the export.
The Pro key is pasted into Settings and verified in the browser, with no connection: it is a cryptographic signature, not a check against a server. No account, no activation to request, and it works on a plane like everything else.
